Business with Purpose

“A business with purpose for less than the price of a biltong shop”

Before launching ActionCOACH Business Coaching in South Africa, on the 3rd of May 2007, I myself was a corporate refugee. 

After a long career in banking, I’d fortunately already broken free from the corporate shackles the previous year.  As is often the case with corporate refugees; I’d left banking 11 months before launching ActionCOACH and left to become a consultant. Sound familiar for some?

Fast track 14 years and I’m even more resolute in my thinking now than I was in 2007. Whilst there is definitely a place for each and every business and entrepreneurial opportunity; “I”, can think of nothing worse than having built up all this knowledge and experience only for it to get stuck in a miss-aligned retail setting. No offence to the burger people but “I” didn’t want to end up flipping burgers.  “I” wanted a business where I could:

• Add Value
• Give back
• Make a difference
• Have financial stability and the ability to excel
• Continue to grow
• Be intellectually stimulated
• Play my part in the success of the country AND
• Leave, or even live, a legacy!

In short, I wanted a business aligned to my purpose and one where I could be “ON PURPOSE” every day.
First and foremost, that should be the case for you too. Find a business that serves your purpose and one where you can use your skills, experience and passion to add value.  At ActionCOACH Business Coaching we get to do that at two very real levels:

Secondly, you should find a business that matches your current and desired financial situation. Obviously, you need to be able to afford it but you also need to ensure you can get both market-related remuneration for what you’re worth as well as a market-related return on your initial investment. I can this M.R.S. R.O.I. but we’ll talk more about that in another article. At ActionCOACH you don’t have expensive equipment, retail rentals (deposits and hours), shopfronts, large staff compliments and stock. Instead, we ensure we take already skilled, experienced and passionate individuals and allow them to ‘buy a business of becoming a business coach’.

For me it’s a no brainer: “Buy a business with purpose for less than a biltong shop! I did!”
