It's easy to fall in love with what we do as Business Coaches

It’s easy to fall in love with what we do as Business Coaches. There are truly very few, if any, better businesses on the planet. We get to work with wonderful people in a positive, energetic and focused environment.

We not only use our past business experience and ActionCOACH training but continuously learn, grow and develop further; whilst allowing those around us to piggy-back on our growth. We inspire others to greatness and have the same benefit internally as what we share externally. We see, smell, hear, taste and touch success as we truly see lives, businesses and relationships transformed right in front of us. What’s not to love?!

That’s the easy part and the rewarding part we all sign-up for in the first place. It is however still a business. Although we’re professional Business Coaches we still coach people, and people can be complicated. Business is also relatively simple but not necessarily always easy. We still need to ensure we, as entrepreneurs ourselves, wear many business hats simultaneously. That means, whilst the love for coaching can be found in the ‘Delivery Hat’ of business, the other ‘Hats’ also require the right amount of focus.

The 9 Hats to wear as an ActionCOACH Business Coach:

  • Marketing
  • Sales
  • Delivery (the actual coaching)
  • Information Communication and Technology (ICT)
  • Human Resources
  • Finance
  • Business Administration
  • Strategic Planning
  • Personal Growth

Item 3, the Coaching, is what we love and a large part of Item 9, Personal Growth, is taken care of within the franchise through ongoing learning, you being coached and mentored as well as support, conferences and the global community. The other ‘7 Hats’ therefore also need the right amount of focus and you’ll only ignore these at your peril. The theory also says, most of those other ‘Hats’ can be outsourced but practically that’s not so easy; especially in the early stages of getting your business up and running.

Just as we guide our clients, we ensure we’re 100% congruent and thus use the same tools and approaches in our businesses as well as theirs. Businesses’ and in the correct proportions.

So what does a week look like in the life of a Business Coach?

Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays are production days. Those are the days we coach our clients, whether one-on-one or in our range of group coaching programs. They’re typically filled one day at a time before we ‘open’ up another day of coaching slots. If the day is not yet full, the defaulted client slot is a sales and marketing one until it has a business owner in it as a client. 60% of your week is therefore focused on client-facing time and income-producing activities. Initially, the bulk of that will be on sales and marketing and as your business grows more time will be weighted towards coaching time.

Mondays are typically for your ‘Work ON Business’ time and start at 08:00 with a team webinar, then include your fortnightly mentoring calls with your allocated MasterCOACH as well as your Monthly Call with the Country Partner. It’s also time for you to plan your week, prepare for your coaching sessions, review finances and so on.

Fridays are available for ‘other’. These make great days for workshops, business diagnostics or alignment sessions, either with the new business owner clients or their teams. Friday afternoons are either for wrap-up and last-minute items or often are available for the coach's own leisure.

Once every quarter, all your clients replace their coaching session for the week with a full day GrowthCLUB (Quarterly Planning) Workshop on the Wednesday. That gives you Monday and Tuesday free for preparation and we encourage you to take the Thursday and Friday off every quarter for some rebalance time for you and your family. That full-day planning also ensures your clients are more focused on what needs to be done in the coming quarter and that they have a detailed plan towards which to coach.

Business is relatively simple and ours perhaps even more so. There are two fundamentals:

  • Get a Client
  • Keep a Client

By focusing on building your business, doing the right amount of marketing and ensuring you implement our 13 Steps Sales Process the first one is taken care of: 'Get a Client'. Keeping a client requires both ‘Relationship’ and ‘Results’ which ultimately ensures retention. Balance those two, follow your preferred Default Diary and ensure you’re balancing all ‘9 Hats of Business’ and we guarantee success.
